About
J. Scott King
Bio
Writing is Scott’s life-long passion but he’s always made a living doing other things. He’s been a first responder, an archaeologist, and in early 2025, retired after a nearly three-decade career in technology to focus exclusively on writing.
Scott’s first published short story, a fantasy novelette called ‘The Ethics of Elemental Servitude’, appeared in The Worlds Within in March of 2023, and recently sold to a small press anthology, The Apparatus Almanac, from JayHenge Publishing. His short fiction has also appeared in Creepy, Suburban Witchcraft Arts & Literature Magazine, Dark Horses Magazine, and 365tomorrows.
Scott is currently working on the final draft of a fantasy novella called The Solace of Things Long Forgotten.
On the TTRPG side of things, Scott has been developing and running custom campaigns for more than forty years for a variety of systems, including D&D, Cyberpunk, Traveller, Champions, and Innersphere, a homegrown system initially developed by Bruce Irving and Gary Bloomfield that Scott has spent many years revising and expanding.
Scott makes his home in Lake Forest Park, Washington, just north of Seattle. When not telling stories, you can find him on the mat at his Aikido dojo, diving the Salish Sea, hanging out with his three amazing adult daughters (Ashley, Maddy, and Charlotte), or exploring the mountains and coastlines of the Pacific Northwest with his wife, Susie, and his dog, Jack.
